Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accountant to oversee all daily accounting functions within our dynamic crop hail insurance company. This role is crucial in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our financial operations, including payroll management and daily reconciliations with our 350 licensed agents across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. The Lead Accountant will supervise two full-time accounting staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll for all employees.
  • Perform daily reconciliations with our agents to ensure accuracy in policy transactions and financial records.
  • Supervise and mentor two full-time accounting staff, providing guidance and support to enhance their professional development.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Coordinate and assist with internal and external audits.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer to develop and monitor budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and accounting best practices to ensure the company remains compliant and competitive.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Sage Accpac) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
